Prior to the organization of Grand
Electric Cooperative and West River
Cooperative Telephone,
virtually no rural utility services existed in our area.
Grand Electric:
Organized July 12, 1946 as Upper Grand River Electric Association.
Converted to Grand Electric Cooperative, Inc. on January 9, 1950.
Governed by a 9-man Board of Directors. there have been 31 past
directors
and three past managers.
Construction:
A-1 Section Northeast portion of system including Lemmon, White
Butte,
Meadow, Bison, and Prairie City.
A-2 Section Balance of northern Perkins Country and into eastern
Harding
Co. including Lodgepole and Ralph areas.
B Section South half of Perkins county plus Ralph and Sorum areas
and
the town of Buffalo.
C Section Stoneville, Red Owl, Maurine, Mud Butte, Castle
Rock, and
Hoover areas.
D Section Cole Springs, Redig, Harding, Ladner, and Camp
Crook areas.
Buffalo outpost established in 1953.
First oil wells served in 1959.
First missile sites served in 1961.
First oil field compressors came on line in the late 1970's.
Constructed J. R. Riedy Delivery Point in 1982.
Constructed Bowman Delivery Point and Bowman Transmission Line in 1989.
Large oil field compressor loads came on line in 1990 and 1994.
Last missile sites deactivated in 1994. |
